FAQ

Why soy wax?

Our candles are created with 100% soy wax. Paraffin wax, which is used in many candles on the market, is a by-product of petroleum (a crude oil/fossil fuel). Soy wax, while more expensive, is biodegradable and derived from a renewable resource. Soy wax is more dense than paraffin wax and therefore lasts longer which extends the life of your candle. Our soy wax is responsibly sourced, and good for you and the environment.

What does is mean to be clean-burning?

We refer to our candles as clean-burning for a variety of reasons. The soy wax we make our candles with, will emit far less soot into your home than paraffin wax candles when used correctly. We also carefully source high-quality fragrance oils that are toxin-free. Our fragrances do not contain harmful chemicals such as phthalates and parabens which are often found in other candles. If you have further questions about our fragrances get in touch with us at hello@andflorastudio.com.

What are the benefits of wooden wicks?

Wooden wicks provide a cozy ambiance with their soft crackling sounds, it's almost like a mini fireplace for your home! They also create little to no carbon build-up and contribute to an excellent scent throw. Our wooden wicks are sustainably sourced in the USA and are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Our wooden wicks are 100% natural and untreated so you can have a fully clean-burning candle. While wooden wicks can be expensive to source, it was important for us to provide an option that had as little environmental impact as possible while still creating a quality candle.

How can I get my wooden wick to stay lit?

Wooden wicks will have trouble staying lit if they are not trimmed properly. Before you re-light your candle, after the first burn, clip off the curled black bits so that your wick is about 1/8"-1/4" tall. You can do this by hand, with a wick trimmer, or by using nail clippers. Be careful not to get any of the clippings into the wax. We trim all of our wicks before sending them to you so that serves as a good frame of reference for how short they should be.
